Yes, sorry, I checked subroutine trid3d.f (in BIEF) and the message on preconditioning 17 is a general message, just a hint, but it is not your case.

What options do you have for tidal flats? I anticipate that masking elements (option 2) could trigger that. Otherwise we would need your case.

Thank you for your answer.
The option for tidal flats is option 1.
However, I have also tested option 2 and it does not work.
I will try to implement a basic version of my simulation (as I have numerous paramaterisations) to see if the problem remains. I will naturally exchange this test case if it still does not work.
